Can You Transfer Money from eSewa to Khalti? How to Do It in 2026 (Both Ways)
Share

Quick answer: no, you can't transfer money directly from eSewa to Khalti, or from Khalti to eSewa, as of October 2026. The two wallets still don't connect. The working route takes two steps: send the money from one wallet to your own bank account, then load the other wallet from that bank account. eSewa charges Rs 10 to send money to a bank, Khalti gives you 3 free bank transfers a month, and loading either wallet from mobile banking is usually free. It takes a few minutes.

I'm Aryan Pariyar, a web developer in Nepal. I connect eSewa and Khalti to client websites, and this is the question people ask me most about them. Every fee and limit below links to eSewa's or Khalti's own page, checked on 27 October 2026.

How to move money between eSewa and Khalti: send from one wallet to your own bank account, then load the other wallet from the bank. eSewa bank transfer costs Rs 10, Khalti gives 3 free bank transfers a month, and scanning an eSewa QR with Khalti can send money to the wrong wallet
The bank route works both ways. Fees from eSewa's and Khalti's published charges.

Can you transfer money directly from eSewa to Khalti?

Not yet. Nepal Rastra Bank told payment providers to make their systems work together in a circular issued on 4 February 2022, and in 2025 eSewa and Khalti prepared to connect through Fonepay's payment switch. Officials said the technical work was mostly done, but the feature still hasn't launched (TechPana, Digital Solution Nepal). An eSewa official put the real obstacle plainly: it isn't technology, it's whether the two businesses agree to work together.

So any website or app promising an instant eSewa to Khalti transfer is either doing the bank route for you, or isn't safe to trust with your money.

How to transfer money from eSewa to Khalti, step by step

  1. Send the money from eSewa to your bank. In the eSewa app, tap Bank Transfer, choose your own saved bank account, enter the amount and confirm. The charge is Rs 10 (eSewa tariffs). Sending to your own linked account allows up to Rs 1,00,000 per transaction; other accounts are capped at Rs 50,000.
  2. Wait for the money to reach the bank. It usually arrives within a few minutes. Check your bank app before the next step.
  3. Load Khalti from the same bank. In the Khalti app, open Load Fund, choose Mobile Banking, e-Banking or ConnectIPS, pick your bank and approve the payment. Khalti says loading from mobile or e-banking has no charge (Khalti). Many bank apps can also load a wallet directly: look for an option like Wallet Load and choose Khalti.

Total cost: about Rs 10. Both wallets must be KYC verified, and your bank account should be in your own name.

How to transfer money from Khalti to eSewa

  1. Send the money from Khalti to your bank. In the Khalti app, tap Bank Transfer and choose your linked account. The first 3 transfers each month are free, then Rs 10 each (Khalti charges).
  2. Load eSewa from the bank. In the eSewa app, choose Load Money and pick mobile banking, internet banking or ConnectIPS, or load eSewa from your bank's own app. Your bank or eSewa shows any charge before you confirm.

So eSewa to Khalti costs about Rs 10, and Khalti to eSewa is usually free for your first three transfers of the month.

Transfer limits for verified users

Limits come from Nepal Rastra Bank's rules, but each wallet publishes its own table, and right now they cite different versions of the directive. These are the figures each wallet shows on its own site:

LimiteSewaKhalti
Wallet to bank, per transactionRs 50,000 (Rs 1,00,000 to your own linked account)Rs 2,00,000
Wallet to bank, per dayRs 2,00,000Rs 2,00,000
Wallet to bank, per monthRs 10,00,000Rs 10,00,000
Wallet to wallet, per transactionRs 25,000Rs 50,000

Sources: eSewa limits, Khalti limits. Unverified accounts can barely move money: eSewa doesn't allow unverified users to send or withdraw at all, so finish your KYC first. The app always shows your current limit before you confirm.

The QR code mistake that sends money to the wrong wallet

If you scan an eSewa QR code with the Khalti app, Khalti can open a send screen to a Khalti wallet registered on the same phone number, without a clear warning. If that person has a Khalti account, your money goes there, not to their eSewa. Scanning a Khalti QR with eSewa usually just shows "Invalid QR" (Artha Kendra).

Before you confirm any payment, check the name and the wallet on the confirmation screen. If you sent money to the wrong wallet, contact that wallet's support straight away with the transaction ID.

Do you need to move the money at all?

Often you don't. Many shops show a Fonepay or NepalQR code, which bank apps and several wallets can pay directly, whichever one you have money in. If someone asks you to pay into a wallet you don't use, ask whether they also accept the wallet you have, or bank transfer. It's quicker than moving money twice.

eSewa, Khalti and your National ID (October 2026)

Nepal Rastra Bank required wallets to record their users' National ID numbers by 17 October 2026. That rule applies to the wallet companies, and as of 20 October no wallet had announced a freeze or a new limit for users who haven't added one (Kharchapatra). It's still worth adding yours: in eSewa, open More, then NID Verification. Ignore any call, SMS or link claiming your wallet will be blocked. Only update details inside the app you opened yourself.

Running a business? Accept both

If customers keep asking whether they can pay with eSewa or Khalti, the answer is to accept both, so nobody has to move money first. My guide to eSewa and Khalti integration on your website covers merchant accounts, test credentials and the security check that stops fake payments. An online store with both gateways starts from NPR 40,000, and you can see the price for your shop in the cost calculator.

Not directly, as of October 2026. eSewa and Khalti still don't connect. Send the money from eSewa to your own bank account with Bank Transfer (Rs 10), then load Khalti from that bank with Load Fund, which is free from mobile banking. It usually takes a few minutes.

Can I transfer money from Khalti to eSewa?

How do I transfer money from eSewa to Khalti?

About Rs 10. eSewa charges Rs 10 to send money to a bank account, and Khalti says loading from mobile banking or e-banking is free. Avoid loading with a card, which adds a percentage fee.

Not reliably. eSewa usually shows Invalid QR for a Khalti code. Khalti can open a send screen to a Khalti wallet on the same phone number when you scan an eSewa QR, so the money can go to the wrong wallet. Check the name and wallet before you confirm.

When will direct eSewa to Khalti transfers start?

There's no launch date. Nepal Rastra Bank asked for interoperability in 2022, and the wallets prepared to connect through Fonepay in 2025, but as of October 2026 the feature hasn't gone live.

Will my eSewa or Khalti be blocked without a National ID number?

As of 20 October 2026, no wallet had announced a freeze for users who haven't added a National ID number. The deadline of 17 October 2026 applied to the wallet companies. Add yours in the app anyway, and ignore calls or links claiming your wallet will be blocked.
