How to resize an image for Instagram without cropping

Choose "No crop", pick Instagram portrait post (1080 x 1350) or Story (1080 x 1920), and download. The tool scales your whole photo to fit the frame and fills the empty space with a soft, blurred copy of the same photo, so nothing gets cut off and there are no plain white bars. Prefer a clean border? Switch the background to a solid colour, such as your brand colour.

Instagram crops anything taller than 4:5 in the feed, and wide photos shrink to a thin strip. Fitting them into 1080 x 1350 first means the whole picture shows, at the largest size the feed allows.

Safe zones, file formats and the mistakes that make posts look amateur are in my social media image sizes cheat sheet.

Why the red areas matter

Turn on "Show the areas apps cover" and the previews mark what each app hides. On Stories, Reels, Shorts, TikTok and WhatsApp status, the top and bottom are covered by your name, buttons and captions, so keep text and faces out of them. Profile pictures are shown as circles, so the corners disappear. A YouTube banner is 2560 x 1440, but only the middle 1546 x 423 shows on every device. If something important sits in a red area, switch to crop mode and tap the part of the photo you want to keep.

Keep your photos sharp after uploading

Every platform compresses uploads again, so start from the largest, cleanest photo you have. Use JPG for photos and PNG for graphics with text or logos, because PNG keeps small text crisp. If the tool warns that your photo is smaller than a size, it had to be enlarged and may look soft; use a bigger original if you can. To shrink images for a website instead, use the image compressor.

Resized is a start. Designed is what gets noticed.

I design social media posts, Stories, covers and brand kits for Nepali businesses, sized right for every platform and consistent with your brand.

Frequently asked questions

+How do I resize a photo for Instagram without cropping?

Upload it here, keep "No crop, fit the whole photo" selected and choose Instagram portrait post (1080 x 1350) or Story (1080 x 1920). The whole photo is kept and the empty space is filled with a blurred copy of it or a colour you pick.

+What size is an Instagram post in 2026?

1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 portrait) shows largest in the feed. Square posts are 1080 x 1080, landscape 1080 x 566, and Stories and Reels 1080 x 1920.

+What is the Facebook cover photo size?

Facebook shows page covers at 851 x 315 on computers and crops the sides on phones. This tool makes it at double size, 1702 x 630, so it stays sharp. Keep text and logos in the middle.

+What size is a WhatsApp DP?

Use a square image of at least 500 x 500 pixels. WhatsApp shows it as a circle, so keep your face or logo in the centre. The tool marks the circle on the preview.

+Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The resizing happens inside your browser using the Canvas API, so your photos never leave your device. It also works on slow connections because nothing is sent.

+Should I use JPG or PNG for social media?

JPG for photos, because the files are smaller. PNG for graphics with text, logos or sharp lines, because it keeps edges crisp after the platform compresses it again.

+Why does my resized photo look blurry?

Usually because the original is smaller than the size you chose, so it had to be enlarged. The tool warns you when that happens. Start from the largest original you have, and avoid screenshots of photos.
